In the primordial soup where life is believed to originate, a necessary event must have occurred. In the continuum that connects the human to the water molecule, a sharp change must exist where life becomes distinct and countable. The original sin: two kinds of matter that do not quite mix are forced together. In their tension to stay apart and stay together, they create temporary compromises of cellular structures. Each interface is a negotiation towards an ephemeral stalemate.
Three billion years later, as the human discovers its own cells, the cells were to remember that distant moment when they agreed to a multicellular life.
